The Measurement Criteria for those players who are unfortunate to end up in "The Wastelands" follows the same marking style already established from the "Pantheon of the Greats" but with one main exception. The word "Wasteland" refers to a place of emptiness, lost hope and where things never grow.
Similarly, this is a place of "broken dreams" and a sort of 'underworld' where those players who failed to reach their full potentials would find themselves dwelling. Just as "The Pantheon of the Greats" can be compared to a Football "Olympus" or "Heaven" in the eyes of the community. The "Wastelands" can be considered to be a football "Dystopian land" or "Hell" for any player who has the unfortunate fate of ending up being here.
These players are given the name "Unmentionables" or "Forgotten Ones" due to the fallen state of their careers. Some of them where either once promising and exciting new talents that where discovered and elevated to stardom at an early age in the football world but where later unmasked and labelled as frauds over a series of time due to certain series of unfortunate events which quite often lead to their careers being either forever tarnished or shamefully cut short.
While in some cases others where completely ruined as a result of poor career decisions which forced them to become "Journey Men" over time. The phrase "Journey Man" or "Journey Men" refers to a player or players who more often than usual find themselves moving to several different clubs within the course of their career. They are wanderers forever searching for a way to explain and understand why they failed to get more game time and opportunities to revitalize their careers with a team that would give them a chance to reclaim their past or undiscovered glory. Ultimately, "The Wastelands" is a place for players whose careers can be considered to have been average, mediocre or underachieving in nature. When all is said and done these players often look back on their careers with much regret. This is the fate of those who end up in "The Wastelands"!!!
Although the Wastelands is a place to serve as a cautionary tale for both football fans and aspiring football players seeking to make a name for themselves by highlighting on the shortcomings of those former players who failed to either meet the demands of their football talent or achieve the highest levels of their potentials. It is not a place to ridicule or disrespect the careers of many of these players as most of them did the best that they could to entertain the football world and they should be treated with the highest level of respect for their efforts despite their shortcomings.
